The Faculty Mentoring Program, Hamilton Library and the Office of Graduate Education present:

Opening Up Your Scholarship: Open Access Week Events
Location: Kuykendall 106 Events Room

Event 1:
Open Access: Advancing Your Research and Scholarship, Monday, October 20, 2014, 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.

Open Access offers an alternative to the traditional model, providing unrestricted access to scholarship over the internet. While open access continues to generate debate, it can be an effective way to disseminate the results of your research, advance your career and contribute to the public good. Join UH Manoa library staff to learn more about Open Access, the Open Access policy and ScholarSpace, the UH Manoa institutional repository where you can provide Open Access to your work.

Event 2:
Fair Use, Creative Commons and Other Copyright Issues in Research and Teaching: Navigating the Minefield of Myths and Misconceptions, Thursday, October 23, 2014, 12:00 noon to 1:15 p.m.

This presentation will cover issues that new faculty members may encounter in the course of teaching and in publishing their own research. Discussion will include the fair use doctrine, the use and effect of creative commons licensing, and the recent court decision involving the Google Books project.
