There are two research assistantships available through Wilfrid Laurier University’s Forest Ecology
Lab ( and the Taiga Plains Research Network ( as part of an
ongoing partnership with the Government of the Northwest Territories
( We are looking for two motivated, energetic individuals to
contribute to ongoing research projects in sub-arctic forest and tundra research sites in the Northwest Territories.

Research assistantship details:
– Duration: Three months (late May – late August)
– Locations: Trail Valley Creek, NWT (north of Inuvik) and Yellowknife, NWT
– Salary/travel: In addition to a modest research assistant stipend, travel between Waterloo, Ontario or a comparably priced departure point and the field site(s) will be provided and food and accommodation while in the field will be provided.
– Tasks: contribute to graduate student field research projects at the two sites.

Interested individuals should have the following general qualifications:
-Be enrolled in or have completed a science-based university or college program.
-Fluency in English
-Experience camping, preferably in more remote settings
-First aid and firearms training required at time of employment
-Valid driver’s license
