APIASF needs additional volunteers for the APIASF General Scholarship program read, which received nearly 9,000 applications this year. Volunteer readers have access to a secure website to review scholarship applications at a time that is most convenient to them during the read period (January 12 – March 13, 2015). To ensure that there are enough readers to evaluate all applications, readers are asked to commit to completing a minimum of 20 applications. Each application takes approximately 10-15 minutes to review. All readers must have an undergraduate college diploma and/or 7-10 years of work experience. As an added incentive, readers who complete a minimum of 40 reviews by March 13, 2015 will be entered in to a drawing to win one of the following prizes:

  • Round-trip Southwest Airlines ticket courtesy of Southwest Airlines
  • VIZIO 32″ Class LED Smart TV and a VIZIO 38″ 2.0 Home Theater Sound Bar with Integrated Deep Bass courtesy of VIZIO

Scholar Profile

Unlike many of my friends and classmates in high school, I was lucky to be able to discover what I wanted to do for the rest of my life early […] The passion I have for cooking is unconditional. It is what I choose to do for the rest of my life. The slicing of an onion, the sautéing of a piece of meat and plating a plate with precision interests me that no other profession can. APIASF and Darden Restaurant Foundation Scholarships had contributed greatly to my education and it continues to do so for me and many other students that need help to pursue their goals!”

“Each year, since the inception of the APIASF Scholarship Read I’ve looked forward to volunteering as a reader. As an Educational/ Academic Counselor at the University of Hawai’i at Hilo – SSSP, the students’ essays inspire me an raises my awareness of the challenges and accomplishments of freshmen across the country. It also helps me to be ‘better at my job.'”
