About the Project:
We are restoring the health and structure of riparian habitat in the upper reaches of the He’eia Stream. We are reforesting the banks with native Hawaiian vegetation that would have been previously found in this habitat. In addition, we are installing erosion control techniques to address eroding stream banks as well as monitoring water quality pre and post project implementation. Since 2009, the project has serviced over 2000 volunteers and installed thousands of native plants.
Tasks:
Year-round outdoor activities provide fresh air and exercise as well as fostering care and respect for our ‘aina. Community Workday tasks range from:
-weeding
-mulching
-planting
-trail maintenance
-plant propagation
