MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student with a degree focus in the Life Sciences, Business Management, Communication or related field. • Some knowledge and/or experience in the field of environmental conservation. • Demonstrated leadership ability and superior interpersonal skills to communicate information to various audiences in a variety of situations. • Demonstrated ability and proficiency to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials. • Demonstrated proficiency and competency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite. • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team setting with emphasis on critical thinking skills when problem solving.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: • Classified graduate student with a Bachelors degree in the Life Sciences, Business Management, Communication or related field. • Prior working experience in the field of conservation or natural resource management, with primary responsibilities in an outreach or communication role. • Working knowledge and experience with database management systems; design applications (i.e. Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, etc.); social media platforms (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, etc.). • Some knowledge of survey design and/or development websites. • Prior working experience with event coordination or management of a volunteer program. • Some working knowledge and experience with a MAC platform and/or web design.

DUTIES: The Hawaii Conservation Alliance (HCA) Outreach Assistant is under the direction of the HCA Executive Director and will work to promote the mission and programs of the HCA with stakeholders, educators, students and visitors in the Hawaiian islands. The Outreach Assistant will be involved with many aspects of the HCA’s Strategic efforts, including educational projects, outreach events; development of print and multi-media outreach tools and materials; and coordination of our annual Hawai‘i Conservation Conference, Hawai‘i Conservation Month, HCA Job Bank and Conservation Connections Talk Story & web/mobile application.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Performs a wide range of educational outreach activities of the Hawaii Conservation Alliance. • Assists with coordinating the annual Hawai’i Conservation Conference and outreach projects like Hawai‘i Conservation Month, Conservation Connections, and other Next Generation program activities. • Coordinates media tasks including writing and placing public notice advertisements, press releases, and coordinating press events. • Coordinates and/or conducts environmental educational presentations, public meetings, community events, exhibit booths, etc. • Develops outreach materials, activities, presentations, etc. • Conducts community outreach and public involvement activities specific to environmental conservation. • Supports and interacts with the HCA web site and engages in social media, database management and other Internet-based applications. • Leads the production of an HCA quarterly newsletter and/or annual report, as appropriate. • Assists with meeting logistics, reporting and facilitation. • Other duties and responsibilities as needed.

WORK SCHEDULE: 15-20 Hours per week, variable M-F between 8:00a-5:00p. Some nights, weekends and/or holidays.

LOCATION: Kakaako in Honolulu, HI

PAY RATE: $13.35/hr
